Code of conduct

Design by Design, LLC and associates pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community. Participation in our community is a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, color, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment for our community include:

• Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people
• Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences
• Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback
• Accepting responsibility and apologizing to those affected by our mistakes, and learning from the experience
• Focusing on what is best not just for us as individuals, but for the overall community

Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

• The use of sexualized language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind
• Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
• Public or private harassment
• Publishing others’ private information, such as a physical or email address, without their explicit permission
• Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting

Summary

Harassment in code and discussion or violation of physical or non-physical boundaries is completely unacceptable anywhere in Design by Design, LLC’s community, course programs, mailing lists, meetups, digital spaces, physical spaces, and other events. Violators will be warned and then blocked, removed or banned by Design by Design, LLC immediately.

Enforcement

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual images, deliberate intimidation, stalking, sustained disruption, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported to a member of Design by Design, LLC or email Alison immediately. All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly.

All community leaders are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident.

Individuals asked to stop any potentially harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Design by Design, LLC alongside guest speakers, vendors, partners are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. If anyone engages in harassing behavior, we may take appropriate action, up to and including warning the offender, deletion of comments, removal from program and communication systems, and forfeiture of all monetary amounts and future partnerships. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of Design by Design, LLC or email Alison immediately.

We expect everyone to follow these rules anywhere in the Design by Design, LLC social channels, chats, and mailing lists. Community leaders have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.

This code of conduct applies both within program spaces and in public spaces when an individual is actively representing the program or its community. Due to their strong association with the Design by Design, LLC programs, participants are always seen as actively representing it.

Finally, don’t forget that it is human to make mistakes! We all do. Let’s work together to help each other, resolve issues, and learn from the mistakes that we will all inevitably make from time to time.
