what it does

Values work sounds soft until you try to make a decision without it. This is the exercise I start with, because almost everything that follows — a role, a boundary, a hard conversation — gets easier once you can name what you are actually protecting.

The Values Workbook — a workbook titled Lead in alignment with your values

what’s inside

Seven pages. Most people do it in one sitting with a highlighter, and the exercise is deliberately quick — it works better on instinct than on deliberation.

Knowing your values

What a value actually is, and why a slight misalignment shows up as friction with other people long before it shows up as a decision you regret.

The values list

Around seventy words in four columns. Cross out what does not fit, highlight the ten that do, then circle the five that spark the most. Go fast and go with your gut.

What the word means to you

Your five, written down, each with your own definition beside it. Two people who both choose Honesty are often not describing the same thing.

Values interoceptions

Five questions on the five you chose: where they have shown up before, how you want them to show up next, what choosing between them told you, which ones you adapt around other people, and what makes the set work together.

What to do next

The takeaway, the best possible outcome of living aligned to them — and, honestly, what could get in the way.

why bother

More fulfilment

Spot the opportunities, roles and projects you will actually connect with, and stop auditioning for the ones you will not.

Better alignment

Understand what you need, so you can find more of it where you already are.

Words for the friction

Put language to that feeling of misalignment or conflict, and find a way to say it out loud.

I’m more aware of the way my beliefs are governing me. It allowed me to take a more critical eye to the way I think and how that impacts my decision making process, especially around my career.
